Important
mm-bbs
The place to go for informed oversea H!P fans :) The featured mixes here were mostly originally posted there, in the Karaoke Bar section. The team behind this site (ASTROBOX) are mostly members of that board. In the Audio Files section there is this long post, "The H!P Fan Remix thread" which is under lock from non-frequent members. Don't ask why. These are the log files: 1-40 / 41-80 / 81-120. Anyway this is the 2nd thread, the 1st one got trashed when the board went nuts, of which no one backed up.
モーニングコーヒーリミックス Vol.13 (Morning Coffee Remix Vol.13)
An extremely long thread on 2channel concerning the Japanese fan mix scene. Right now it is already at its 13th thread which means like 10k posts since 2001. Chatters talk about numerous audio related topics, most importantly is that these threads are the places for mixers to post their works.
まとめたよー (Ananda's site)
An excellent archive of the past 2ch threads, with tabled list of all the mixes ever posted (filename, author etc). It helps a lot for naming unsorted tracks or find out what mix is done by who especially the ones aren't on a web site. Also a link farm of the most frequently updated mixer sites. This site inspired the entire links section here :)
Public Morning Musume Tracker (PMMT) down indefinitely
Perhaps better known as "bunko" to most folks, this is THE BitTorrent tracker to go for H!P fans. Our featured mixer Kuno originally posted his works at PMMT instead of our more familiar mm-bbs, just so to show you filesharing can have very positive means of usage otherwise :)
Helpful
歌声リップ (Utagoe Rip)
Japanese program for vocals ripping. We have a tutorial with the basis covered for this app
BPM Counter
Manual tapper for counting a song's tempo (works better than you think)
that girl in broken spell (something new)
One of the fan mixer sites, check out the H!P song keys list (click on the ハロプロキー一覧 link), so bloody useful (now what we need is a BPM list...) edit: Wow looks like the guy is paying attention to our site too. I was just halfassedly mentioning the BPM list idea and b5th actually went and add them to the list!
ギター譜・コード譜置き場 (Guitar chord sheets archive)
A fairly completed collection of H!P guitar tabs/chord sheets, sheer volume wins
MUSUME's voice
Various interesting voice clips of MM members, add these in your mix if you feel like being creative
projecthello.com
Mink's lyrics database, with romaji + translation for a crap load of H!P songs, very detailed and accurate + frequently updated. Pay attention to the color-coded vocal analysis (or パート割 they call it) which is like the best.thing.ever
ASAOTO
An amazingly informative site for the music aspects of H!P. Insanely complicated discography with comprehensive background info for each song, also extremely detailed profiles for arrangers and instrument players
monazilla.org(w
Ground zero for numerous "2ch browsers", if you read the board with just IE you sure as hell find the Medieval CGI shit annoying. Use these and problems solved. Oh yeah best part is you can bypass the porn ads now :) (and the ttp:// links are clickable) For PC try OpenJane, for Mac try MakaEle (マカー用。)
excite translation
Helps a lot if you are facing difficulties navigating Japanese sites. Does what babelfish does but better and less retarded, especially with catching internet/computer phrases. Check out the URL translation too. This isn't perfect, but better than none (I wouldn't consider babel as "any").
I am thinking of what else to add, more program links and random tutorials may be?
In-Depth Mix Sites Profiles (beta)
This is incompleted, just throw this up as a testing or something
Here is a list of the currently up and running Japanese mixer sites, arranged in chronological order of their respective launch dates , separated by couple categories. All of them host mix files on their sites and many are kept being updated on a regular basis. There are also comprehensive profiles for each of those sites, and please note that the mixes mentioned aren't necessarily available at the moment because nothing stays online forever. As to where to get the missing mix, it is a whole another topic (we have plans).
This thing is intended for English readers who otherwise have troubles accessing those mixer sites. I didn't ask all of these sites to be linked, but I guess that naturally isn't a problem...
DJ category
みゅ〜じっくのんすとっぷ のいえたんつ - のの(ぶりん娘。)
(MUSIC NONSTOP NEUE TANZ - Nono Brinco)
Genre: Downtempo, Breakbeat, Techno
Recommended: electro RR21(ラフmix) (electro RR21 Love mix)
One of the very first H!P mixers with quality. The guy has a diverse range of interest, ranging from acid to ambient to even trance (although slightly). He seems to have quite an understanding to each genre and his mixes usually have quite a reference to that. Like his electro RR21 Love mix which starts with a sample from classic electro Planet Rock of Afrika Bambaataa's (that made me laugh). Majority of his stuff is Downtempo, it is quite a display seeing how much is explored on just that category.
musume remixes - ムネモニ (munemoni / vixen)
Genre: Techno, Breakbeat, Downtempo, Trance, House
Recommended: LOVE涙色 -rhythm madness mix2- (Love Namida Iro)
With an approach on pretty much every corner of Electronic music, munemoni has an arsenal of extremely well done remixes with both creativity and quality. His works has been successful at that they are mostly themed and the genre picking is very suitable to respective vocals. The recommended Love Namida Iro madness mix is literally a techno madness with multiple Ayaya tracks crashing with a gazillion SFX and vocal samples, AND at the same time still sounds good. Aside from the said mix, the ザ☆ピ〜ス! -delivered from the beach mix- (The Peace) is also one hell of a listen (which managed to grab on the theme thing I was mentioning).
connie's - connie, G2 down indefinitely
Genre: Everything
Recommended: あやや ショッピングー♪ (Ayaya Shopingoo)
The sheer volume of their works is amazing, and more importantly they ain't bad at all. I suspect (not sure) that he worked on the mixes with more than a few other audio people, on a project basis? Anyway, since there are so many tracks there it is pointless to list a genre. Among the more dedicated mixes I find my fav lies within cosmo-disco, and especially the Ayaya Shoppingoo mix is simply as cute as you can get. Don't miss out the Hare Mistral mix too (晴れ 雨 のち ミストラル). On G2's side I find the most interesting ones being the Tsuji NONSTOP pair, the Drum n Bass and Happycore mixes.
Virtuoso - 秋 (aki)
Genre: Trance, Downtempo, House, Rock (Live)
Recommended: SHALL WE LOVE? -7th Cafe remix-
Aki has always had the extra touch that makes the mixes highly listenable. Majority of his works are trance which are mostly very well done, with a notable mention of his Afurechau BE IN LOVE, and the Aa Lovesick mix. But among his works the very one that impressed me the most is the SWL cafe mix, a sort of acid house approach with an R&B twist; so damn good you just HAVE to listen to it. There are also occasional guitars in the mixes which sound like non-synth'd (which is good). Recently aki has slowed down a bit, let's hope he will pick up some pace.
柴田あゆみ確信「2−1で日本」 - おなら一平
(Shibata Ayumi Kakushin "2-1 de Nihon" - Onara Ippei)
Genre: Breakbeat, Techno, House
Recommended: ロードランナーしたいX'mas! (Lode Runner shitai X'mas)
Some of these mixes aren't really "music", but more of a synth play on audio clips that other wise have some H!P references, often humorous. Such as ひとみ13さい is simply a slap on Saitou Hitomi's face :) It is rather hard to tag genres for his stuff, more like funky, electro? Very recently a 8-bit mix of Pucchi Moni's Pitari shitai X'mas is up, with samples and especially the intro being from NES classic Lode Runner, the best mix from him so far, I say.
さゆみっくす - Sayumix
Genre: Rock (synth), House
Recommended: 晴れ雨のちスキ 〜RockVer〜 (Hare Ame Nochi Suki ~RockVer~)
One of the newer sites among the hood. More on the synth sides of things but the rock he did is awesome. Hare RockVer in particular is very well done, that a featured OPV edited by sadude for that mix is hosted our site as well :) Just those few mixes he has done are enough to keep me wanting more from him.
Live/cover category
Evil Morning。 - #13:Root
Genre: Metal
Recommended: 抱いてよ! PLEASE GO ON -Diamond Mix- (DPGO)
When this site first came realized by oversea fans it simply got stormed over. EVERYONE loves how damn hard he managed to make all these H!P songs into. Whether you like metal or not, you have to bow to his kickass guitar skillz that quite likely you and I don't have. If you ask me, I can't find a single track from him that I don't like. I am a bit biased but my personal fav is actually Romantic GIRL mix. On the technique sides of things I guess the best would have to be the Crazy about You one, or the DPGO, or maybe Chance of Love... it is hard to choose. DPGO has got a direct reference from Stratovarius' Black Diamond, same as most others on the site, like Ai~n Dance no Uta is obviously Metalica, 11WATER's mix being from Racer X, Yaruki being Rainbow's Kill the king and so on. Evil Morning is undoubtedly the most exciting mix site out of the lot.
morning under ground web site (mug) - ハンサム (Handsome)
Genre: Punk, Rock
Recommended: THE CHARMY SHOW
Hansamu is all about quality over quantity. Everything he has put out is just lovely. The Kokoni and Choktto punk mixes under gogo4714 are both like WOAH sort of good. So damn good it is like how the songs were supposed to be. Not to mention the guitars there can own you for life. Now on a totally different slot, THE CHARMY SHOW has a whole another level of WOW factor. Guy took like a shit load of voice samples out of the HP news segment of Hello Morning, put them together and you get Rika rapping for you! The dude even sings in the mix, it is just mad hardcore totally beyond words... Just these 3 mixes alone are enough to mark this site as one of the best out there.
Legend
Now, all these genre allocations are solely subjective, and according to how much of an experienced/informed music lover you are, they could be wildly inaccurate. Please excuse us kids for totally throwing terms around, these are just for some reference.
