rhodamineRhodamine is a sort of printing dye that is magenta in color, and is often used to determine water circulation because it is fluorescent. I have always liked the idea of stuff glowing inside a medium with its motional form being captured still, so I migrated that mental image onto this experimental wallpaper.
This magazine scan of aya came like, pretty low-res and not well-scanned. I loved the pose of hers though, so I decided to take it as an almost-thershold even though I may lose some details of the photo. Now, the picture is turned into quite high-contrast, with just whites and blacks. This is where the fluorescent look kicks in.
I gave it couple layers of roses photos for a reason (that I will state at the end...). The textural nature of them helped to maintain a lower contrast overall, and manipulating the center shape would be easier since with just aya, it would have looked pretty boring. Some other gradient / abstract layers were then added to the BG as well.
Main course is then the fluorescent line arts and the text. You may be able to tell now, I am addicted to that specific floral ornament obviously (see rika006s, berryz002), where this time I gave it an even more crucial role. That thing is mirrored into 2, and then stuffed onto the origin to help maintain the focal point and to provide a sense of motion. These things were than given the rhodamine treatment as if they were glowing in the dark.
The 2 islands of text were needed to be seperated to balance out the way aya's arms are posed. Script, and Italic Serif choices of font to reflect the apparent classy atmosphere. They are given the fluorescent treatment also, just so they wouldn't have stood out too much.
Now, I am releasing this as a St. Valentine's day themed present. I know this is completely too cutting-edge for most, but it has ROSES! Are you telling me you don't like roses on your desktops this day, my damned closet otakus??!!!
